AWeber vs Constant Contact

When it comes to email autoresponder and list building services, two names that you encounter most of the time are AWeber and Constant Contact.  Both of these email list building services provide you with all of the necessary tools you need to effectively create and maintain your email subscriber lists.

In this comparison of AWeber vs Constant Contact, we’ll take a closer look at each company to see which one might be better suited for your online business.

AWeber

AWeber

AWeber is one of the oldest and most established email marketing services.  They have one of the better reputations for list building tools.  In addition to email automation, AWeber has also added landing page creation to their features.  Best of all, AWeber now offers a free email marketing plan—thought there are limitations.

Constant Contact

Constant Contact is also one of the more established email marketing companies in the industry.  However, they continue to provide one of the better complete lines of digital marketing including social media and text marketing.

AWeber vs Constant Contact:  Key Features

AWeber-Pricing-and-Plans

AWeber offers 5 different levels of plans based on the number of subscribers you have.  With AWeber, you get access to all features with all of their plans.  And, AWeber has now added landing pages to their features, so you now don’t have to buy a separate product like a page builder tool to integrate with AWeber.

Constant Contact offers 2 different email marketing plans:  Email and Email Plus.  Both of their plans include an impressive list of core features.  However, with Email Plus you get access to even more premium features such as Dynamic Content, surveys, polls, coupons, and event marketing.

The big advantage with Constant Contact is that you also get website creation and hosting.  So, Constant Contact now really is a more complete solution for digital marketing.

While both AWeber and Constant Contact provide more than adequate features to create effective email marketing campaigns, if you’re basing your decision strictly on features, then Constant Contact gets a slight edge.

AWeber vs Constant Contact:  Usability

AWeber and Constant Contact both provide easy to use drag and drop editor to compose your email messages and landing pages.  You can easily add and edit texts, images, buttons, and other formatting items to your marketing messages.

Constant Contact Includes Branding Functionality

What I really like about Constant Contact is that if you already have a website, it will pull in the graphics form your site to further customize and help brand your messages.

While I find both editors easy to work with, because of the added customization you get with Constant Contact, they also get the advantage in this category.

AWeber vs Constant Contact:  Performance

On the performance side, I found both AWeber and Constant Contact deliver impressive email delivery and list building.  I didn’t encounter any problems in these areas.  I’m also impressed by the analytics that each service provides.

AWeber vs Constant Contact:  Customer Support

I’m pleased to report that AWeber and Constant Contact both provide excellent customer support.  My experiences with both support departments has been positive and I’ve received very responsive and helpful assistance when needed.

Whether I’ve needed technical support or other help with my account, both AWeber and Constant Contact have been great in providing prompt resolutions.

AWeber includes phone, email, and live chat support, while Constant Contact offers phone, live chat, and community forum support.

It’s a very close call here.  In my opinion, both AWeber and Constant Contact are winners when it comes to support.  Because AWeber also includes email ticket support, I give them a little advantage in the support category.

Advantages of AWeber over Constant Contact

AWeber-Email-Campaigns
AWeber Email Campaigns

If your primary focus is to start building email lists and create email marketing campaigns, then AWeber is the better choice. AWeber’s process is a bit more streamlined and allows you to get going faster. While Constant Contact’s interface is more user-friendly, for basic email marketing functionality AWeber is a better choice.

The other big advantage is for affiliate marketers. AWeber is generally much more affiliate-marketing friendly. With Constant Contact, there may be restrictions on what types of links and offers you can include in your campaigns. While I haven’t personally encountered issues here, I have heard stories from others that have.

And, with AWeber you can start out using a free account. So, you can get started using AWeber right away without having to spend money. With Constant Contact, you’re only give a free trail period.

Advantages of Constant Contact over AWeber

You get all the list building functionality you’ll need with both AWeber and Constant Contact.  From building your first list all the way up to handling larger marketing lists that require more customization and segmentation, AWeber and Constant Contact are up for the job.

AWeber’s list building and management tools are generally more text based, while Constant Contact offers a more graphical interface with their email tools.  Again, although I find both tool sets intuitive and easy to work with, I would give Constant Contact the advantage based on a slightly more user-friendly interface.

Constant Contact Drag and Drop Editor

While Constant Contact has always provided the ability to create landing pages, AWeber has just recently added that functionality.  Personally, I like Constant Contact’s templates a bit better.  But, what I think really gives Constant Contact the edge is the added branding and customization you get.

For example, if you already have a website, Constant Contact will pull in images from your site to further customize your templates.  It really helps with your branding and giving your marketing a more consistent and professional look.

Although both platforms include helpful reports to track and improve your email marketing success, I personally like the report formats that Constant Contact provides you.  I haven’t had any issues with the analytics data from either AWeber’s or Constant Contact’s reporting.  I just find the graphics and formatting with Constant Contact make the reports easier to analyze and dissect.

Recommendation

The truth is, AWeber and Constant Contact can both be used for effective email list building.  I’ve actually used both of these email services myself for different purposes.  AWeber and Constant Contact both provide all the features, list building interfaces, templates, and customer support needed to help you build your email lists faster and more efficiently.

The choice really comes down to your particular business model and your current online marketing status.  First, if you’re marketing your own products or services for your business, I would go with Constant Contact.  However, if you’re doing affiliate marketing, I would recommend AWeber as they tend to be more affiliate-friendly.

The other consideration is whether you just need an email autoresponder or you also need a website.  AWeber is perfect if you just want to plug in email marketing to your existing website and online presence.  However, if you’re just starting out and don’t have a site of you own, then Constant Contact is the better choice.
