Why Use WordPress?

Why Use WordPress for Your Online Business?

In this article, let’s answer the most basic question you might have:  Why use WordPress for your online business website?  Sure, there are a ton of other options you can choose as the platform for your site.  However, here are my top 7 reasons why I recommend you create a WordPress website for your home-based business.

1. WordPress is Free

Okay, you do have to pay for your hosting (please don’t go for free web hosting).  However, the software itself is free, and many plugins and themes can also be used without having to pay extra money.

2. WordPress is Flexible

Because there are tons of WordPress themes available, you can really get website to look how you want without having to be a developer yourself.  And the WordPress.org repository contains hundreds if not thousands of plugins you can use to add the functionality you need for your business website.

3. WordPress Gives You More Control

WordPress gives you more control over your website in a couple of different ways.  First, unlike with website builders like Wix, SquareSpace, etc., you have more control over how your website appears and what functions it includes.  Website builders require you to select a certain type of plan (eCommerce, blog, etc.) and the more features you want, the higher the cost.  With WordPress, all you need is your hosting plan and you can create any type of website you need.

Also, with website builders, you’re locked into their ecosystem and if you want to move somewhere else, your out of luck.  With your self-hosted WordPress business website, you can change hosts and move your site when you need to.

4. WordPress Moves at the Speed of Technology

Because WordPress is an open-source solution, you aren’t stuck with one way of doing things.  Again, going back to our website builder comparison, if you go with Wix or one of those website solutions, you’re really at the mercy of their engineering department when it comes to technology improvements for your site.

Because WordPress moves at the speed of technology, with contributions from the entire WordPress community, you aren’t stuck with one way of doing things from one engineering department.

5. WordPress is Search Engine Friendly

One of the biggest benefits from WordPress has always been that search engines such as Google really like WordPress website content—if it’s done right.  And with WordPress, you can use an SEO plugin such as Yoast to optimize your site—making it even more likely that your content will rank better.

6. WordPress is the Most Popular Platform

WordPress is so popular that it currently accounts for about 35% of all websites on the internet.  Not only does that mean that more companies are providing solutions for WordPress users, but you can also see that WordPress isn’t going away any time soon.  With other platforms, you can’t be that sure.

7. WordPress is Easy

While years ago, installing and building a WordPress website might have seemed like a difficult task, things have definitely changed for the better.  Most web hosts now provide one-click WordPress installation—and some will even pre-install the software for you.  And, getting started with WordPress has never been easier.  Some web hosts provide WordPress website builder tools and online wizards that guide you through the process of creating your first WordPress site.

WordPress is the Way to Go!

For these and many other reasons, I definitely believe that WordPress is the way to go when you’re creating your home-based business website.
